Albert Pissis

Educated: l'Ecole des Beaux Arts
Died: 1914
SUMMARY
Son of a French-born physician, the family moved to San Francisco in1858.
Worked in the atelier of Guadet from 1872 to 1876.
Worked in the offices of William Mooser Sr. upon his return from Paris.
Shortly thereafter, he opened his own office.
Played a major role in the rebuilding of downtown San Francisco after the Earthquake and Fire of 1906.
Designed many of the city’s most prominent commercial buildings including, the Hibernia Bank (1892, 1905 and 1907); Crocker Bank Building (1910 and 1921); the Emporium, (1896 and 1908); the Flood Building (1904); the Mechanics’ Institute (1909); and the White House (1908). He also designed the Savoy Hotel, Sherith Israel Synagogue, and the Lane Library.
