SUMMARY

  • Began his career as a draftsman in the offices of McKim, Mead & White.
  • Pursued architectural studies in Europe and returned to New York, where he opened an office in 1885.
  • Moved to San Francisco in 1889
  • Responsible for many important buildings, including the Ferry Building , the Crocker Building and Trinity Church.
